Dominican Republic is known for the beaches and also delicious food. Something that I really loved to eat and you can find on any beach in the island is Yaniqueques. A simple but delicious fried dough that you can eat just by itself or with hot chocolate (or coffee!!) for breakfast.


About 6 to 7 yaniqueques

  • 2 cups of all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 2/3 of cup of cold water
  • 1/2 a cup of oil (for frying)

Mix the flour with the baking powder, salt, and cold water with your hands on a lightly floured surface until well combined. Let the dough rest covered in a plastic film or with a very clean paño (kitchen towel) for about 20 min.


Divide the dough in sections and make balls.


Before frying.. take each one and extend with your hands until very thin about 6″


Fried the dough in hot oil until golden brown and crispy and leave on paper towel before serving.
